Under 6, the number of chords was expanded using 4 setups: Ab +2, Bb +1, C 0 and D -1.
Apart
from the chord growth, flexibility does not get much better.
But
if we instead use Bb +1, F
0, C
0 and G
-1 on eg 2 cembalos with 2 cembalists, this will give
access to a fair amount of composition from the Renaissance. This
system provides better handling of the passing tones and there is
less jumping from manual to manual.
This
will also give 2 extra major triads compared to meantone: pure Ab
major triad , pure B maj triad and a pure G#m (in addition a pure Fm
is also available with 2 manuals combined)
The
advantage of 2 cembalists is that each of them only has 2 tones on
the "wrong" keys each to keep track of.
